Climate of the past millennia

Description

The role of forced and natural variability over the last millennia is investigated using simulations with the climate model LOVECLIM, General Circulation Models, and proxy data (which are indirect measures of past climate variability), using among other tools data assimilation. A particular attention is paid to the spatial structure of the changes.

The contribution of atmospheric circulation changes to the temperature (°C) difference between the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA, 950-1250 AD) and the Little Ice Age (LIA, 1400-1700 AD) has been estimated from simulations performed using LOVECLIM with data assimilation. For more details, see Goosse et al. (2012).
